Pay a Person Security Tips
Only Send Money to People You Know and Trust
Never send money to someone you do not know or trust. Scammers may impersonate friends, family members, businesses, or other trusted individuals.

Verify Payment Requests
Independently confirm unexpected payment requests using a phone number or contact method you already trust, especially if the request seems urgent.

Double-Check Recipient Information
Review the recipient's information carefully before submitting your payment. Payments are generally irreversible and may not be recoverable if sent to the wrong person or as part of a scam.

Keep Your Keyword Secure
For email and text payments, create a unique keyword and share it only with the intended recipient. The recipient must provide the keyword to receive the funds.

Protect Your Online Banking Account
Adding a new payee requires password or code verification because of the higher risk associated with these transactions. Never share your password, verification codes, personal information, or account information with anyone.

Protect Yourself from Payment Scams

Only use Pay a Person to send money to individuals you know and trust.

Scammers may pretend to be friends, family members, or legitimate businesses and pressure you into sending money.

Before sending a payment:

  • Verify the request independently. Contact the person or business directly using a trusted phone number or contact method.
  • Check the recipient information. Make sure you are sending money to the correct person.
  • Be cautious of urgency. Unexpected demands to "send money now" should be treated with caution.
  • Protect your information. Never provide your online banking password, verification code, or account information to another person.

Important: Citizens State Bank cannot guarantee the return of funds for authorized payments sent in error or as part of a fraudulent transaction. If you are unsure about a payment request, do not send the payment until you have verified that it is legitimate.
